WBs 80th

After lots of planning, fretting over the planning, finalizing the planning & implementing the planning, we had a wonderful party. I think everyone who attended had a great time & especially Daddy. I don't think he realized how many wonderful people he has in his life who care about him & were more than happy to celebrate his birthday with him. We are all still wipped out from the festivites & took it easy today. The overcast cold weather made it easy to just relax today.

Finally! November Weather

After a less than Fall weather day yesterday, we had a north wind blow in that dropped the temperature drastically & brought some rain!  We should see some nice oats & rye sprouting up soon that the cows will be super happy about eating.

Fairly easy day yesterday.  I took a long walk around the pastures in the morning & opened some gates to allow the front Brahman herd easier access to other pastures.  Dog greatly enjoyed the walk & collapsed as soon as we got back to the house.  Cleaned up the house & finished just in time for my sister to get here.  We tried to get our table decorations set up at the Club, but our efforts were thwarted by short staffing issues.  Not that much to do anyway so we can just go early today & do all the set up at one time.

We are excited about Daddy's party.  Should be lots of fun & will have plenty of pictures to share.

Friday Eve

Can't imagine why I'm so tired.  We really didn't do that much today.  It must just be because my sweet little Sugar dog had me up at 4:30 to go outside to potty.  I guess it is better than the night before when she had me up at 2 & again at 2:30!  The things I do for that old lady!

Two trips to town - 1 to drop Dog off for his Pretty Puppy Beauty Parlor appointment & 1 more to pick him up.  WB & I also drove in the opposite direction to run some errands in Bastrop.  Stopped at the Back Door Cafe in Smithville for lunch - super yummy!!  It's located on Main St & has really good food at a super reasonable price.

Other than curling more barbed-wire for table decorations & making sure the apartment was spic & span for my mother-in-law, that was about it for the day.

Tomorrow is a free day as I want WB to be well rested on Saturday for his party.  No work for him & by tomorrow afternoon, Elizabeth & I will be getting our decorations out on the tables at the Club.

Good Night to all.  WB & I are trying to stay awake until the season premier of Burn Notice at 9.  I hope we can make it!!  :-)

Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all the brave men & women whose service provides me with a safe home. My gratitiude extends to all past, present & future Veterans.

My two long-eared friends have been stalking me. For some reason, they think I always have treats for them. That & since they are donkeys, they just like to bite stuff. Gotta make sure to keep all my appendages in tact when these two are around. Donkey Hody is on the left & on the right is Miss Honey.

I tried to match pictures of cows to cows with missing ear tags yesterday. Was able to get a few, but the cow mug book ended in 2005 & we have had a bunch of calves in the past 5 years. We'll now try to get back on track with the mug book. I know it drives the accounting folks crazy that we have missing cows on the inventory. Some may have just lost their ear tags. Others may be dead or decided the grass really was greener on the other side of the fence. Either way, we need to get those who are lost off the inventory.

Yesterday Today

Yesterday was a whirlwind of activity. Off to town first thing in the morning to return the empty fertilizer/seed spreader. We ran a couple of small errands & then back to the house. After we moved 300lbs of feed into the feed room (sounds like a lot but it's only 6 bags!), it was time to get WBs Kubota back on all 4 feet. New tire installed & he was a happy driver again.
Shortly after lunch, I was off to town again to pick up a full fertilizer/seed spreader & had a whole new list of errands to run. I was a little nervous driving the full spreader back home, but I did it! Sounds silly to be nervous about it, but I was driving my dad's truck & hadn't pulled a trailer or any ranch equipment in a really, really long time. Guess it all came back to me fairly easily as I managed to get home without any problems & even backed up the spreader in a good spot to be hooked up to the tractor.
I checked on my little mule Pepe. He had to go back to the doctor as he was still sick. Waiting on 3 more tires & a master cylinder for the brakes. We'll see what other surgery on his brake system he'll need after the MC is installed. Fingers crossed, not too much more so that Pepe can come home!!
WB found one more heifer out back & so we coaxed her to the trap pasture with range cubes. We have a true scavenger hunt to do today in that we saw a cow corpse & need to find the ear tag so we know who kicked the bucket. Always sad to see that as we have no idea how the little lady died.
The sun was setting & the adult Brahman herd was working their way to their night time pasture. I had to take this picture as I know Mom would have loved this scene. "A lovely pastoral scene" is probably what she would have said.
